How do you count time? In seconds and minutes and hours and days? In months and seasons? In years and decades and epochs?
Do you break it into moments and feelings and sensations - this was the year that my life was the color yellow and then this was when everything could be perfectly summed up by the song “Wagon Wheel” and this was when for three weeks straight I only ate jelly beans for breakfast - until your whole life is a patchwork quilt?
Do you categorize time into times when you were happy and when you were sad? Do you lump together those moments of regret? Do you annotate your memories: highlight the happy times, cross out the dark days, place stars by the important parts?
How do you show the way that time passes interminably slow until you look up and it’s all gone by too fast, so fast you might just be lost and it feels like you are already in the future but you’re still here forever? How do you say you wish time would just… stop for a moment to let you catch your breath?
If you figure it out, let me know, would you?
